DOUG NEWNHAM

Principal Engineer

CPEng, RPEQ, NPER, P.Eng (APEGBC)

Doug is a professional engineer with over 18 years of experience in bulk materials handling and design for fabrication/installation and has professional status in both Australia (CPEng, NPER, RPEQ) and Canada (P.Eng APEGBC). He worked for 9 years as a project engineer for a design/build company, tackling all aspects of projects from concept to commissioning. Following that, he took a position as engineering manager for a fabrication shop. Prior to founding FSD Engineering, he spent 5 years working at an engineering consultancy that specialized in finite element analysis. His diverse background ensures that all aspects that potentially impact a project; from design, to fabrication, to installation, to maintenance; are considered at every step along the way.

Doug’s other passion is drawings. Not just the drawings themselves, but the process that goes into creating those drawings. The mentors at his first job always taught him to question whether something could be done better. It started with LISP routines for AutoCAD and resulted in the development of a customized workflow for Autodesk Inventor that enables FSD to create detailed fabrication drawings faster and more accurately, reducing both cost for drawings and potential errors.

And when he’s not working you are most likely to find him on the golf course, or trying to get there!
